Let’s learn how to compare people, places, and things in a fun and easy way!

When we describe a naming word (noun), we use adjectives.
But when we compare, we use different forms of adjectives.
These are called Degrees of Comparison.

degrees of comparision

There are three degrees:

1. Positive Degree

This degree simply describes one person or thing.

It does not compare.

✔ Examples:

  • Riya is tall.
  • The mango is sweet.
  • My bag is light.

No comparison—just describing!

2. Comparative Degree

Used to compare two people or things.
We usually add “-er” or use “more” before the adjective.

✔ Examples:

  • Riya is taller than Neha.
  • This mango is sweeter than that one.
  • My bag is lighter than yours.

Here we are comparing TWO things.

3. Superlative Degree

Used to compare more than two people or things.
Shows the highest or lowest quality.
We add “-est” or use “most.”

✔ Examples:

  • Riya is the tallest girl in the class.
  • This is the sweetest mango.
  • My bag is the lightest of all.

This degree shows something is the BEST or MOST.
